    The Many Uses of Chamomile

    Body
Pre-sleep soak: Add 2 drops to a carrier oil and dissolve in warm bathwater. Sit for 10 minutes to transition the nervous system toward rest. Consider adding rose petals or bath salts to deepen the ritual.

Compress for discomfort: Add 2 drops to warm water, soak a cloth, and apply to the lower abdomen to ease menstrual or abdominal tension. Clary sage amplifies this effect.

Calming rub: Add 2 drops to 1 tsp carrier oil and apply to hands and wrists before moments that trigger tension—before medical appointments, difficult conversations, or transitions.

    Skin
Gentle lotion for reactive skin: Add 2 drops to 1 tbsp unscented lotion to address dry eczema or persistent irritation. Myrrh deepens the skin-supporting effect.

Hydrating mist for sensitivity: Add 6 drops to a spray bottle with filtered water to refresh and calm sensitive skin throughout the day. Shake gently before each use. Avoid the eye area.

    Mind & Mood
For sleep deprivation: Diffuse 2 drops of Roman chamomile with 4 drops of helichrysum to restore equilibrium when rest has been elusive.

For nervous tension: Use as a personal diffusion during moments requiring composed presence—work demands, creative focus, or emotional navigation.

    FAQs

Roman chamomile eases both mind and body through its anti-inflammatory and antispasmodic properties, promoting restful sleep, calming tension, and supporting sensitive skin without inducing drowsiness.

Yes—when properly diluted to 2-5% in a carrier oil or unscented lotion, Roman chamomile is non-toxic and non-irritating, making it particularly gentle for sensitive or reactive skin conditions like eczema.

No—APTIVA's Roman Chamomile is formulated for external use only (aromatic and topical application); ingestion of essential oils should only be done under professional guidance and is not recommended for home use.

Whilst we know of customers taking our oils internally, we remind Aptiva oils has not been approved by the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD), HKSAR for consumption. Ingestion can be toxic, especially for children.

Roman chamomile blends harmoniously with bergamot, clary sage, geranium, jasmine, lavender, neroli, and rose, allowing for personalized ritual composition.

Roman chamomile is non-toxic with no known safety precautions when used as directed; those on long-term medication should consult their practitioner, and those with ragweed allergies should avoid it.

    A Plant with Quiet History

Named by 16th-century German botanists, Roman chamomile found its true home in northwestern Europe and Northern Ireland. Unlike its cousin German chamomile, this small perennial grows low and compact—barely a foot tall—with gray-green leaves and miniature daisy-like flowers: white petals framing golden centers.

The distinction matters. Roman chamomile's thicker leaves and restrained growth pattern yield a different character: more composed, slower to reveal its effects, deeper in its quietness.

Ancient cultures knew this. Egyptians revered chamomile's sun-like flowers, dedicating them to Re, their sun god. The Greeks called it Kamaimelon—"ground apple"—for its subtle earthiness. Romans discovered its value in bathing and daily ritual, a practice that traveled across continents and remains relevant today.
